I got this deck when chronicle.com was having its 30% off + free shipping "FRIENDS" code sale, in anticipation of our family trip to Long Island for Christmas. Before taking an almost-four-year-old on the plane, I packed lots of activities for him to do; but there will always be times when I either can't get something out because the plane is descending, or because he feels he has exhausted the potential of all the things in my backpack. This card deck is perfect for those times...which don't always occur in the plane, by the way--it worked for the car, the bus, the airport, etc. I did look through the deck before our trip and quickly sorted out the cards that a non-reader could do...this left approximately half the deck (this deck will grow with your child). When we needed an idea, I took a card off the top and ran with it. In most cases, it was just the kernel of the idea that we then adapted, but in all cases, the card provided the different direction or new thing that kept my son occupied and held a breakdown at bay. This would make a great gift, but it really is for the parent, not necessarily for the child traveler. Highly recommended.

Received these as a gift. These are not playing cards at all, in the sense of "playing" poker, etc. This is the perfect item to regift to some office coworker whom you want to receive the worst gift in the "secret Santa" exchange this year.

"Don't wait until you're retired or on your deathbed to make your wildest dreams come true. In fact, don't even wait until next week. Seize the day!" - From the deck 52 Ways to Celebrate Life Deck features 52 small, whimsical cards dedicated to celebrating life. The front side of these cards depicts a colorful image and state a particular theme. The other side offers suggestions on how to implement the theme of the card. For example, the Life as Art card says: "You life is like a work of art. Step back and see for yourself by making a collage. Start with a big piece of cardboard. Look through magazines for pictures that capture different elements of your life-the people, places, and things you love; the adventures you've had; your achievements and accidents. Add phrases, feathers, glitter, and pictures of your own. Include images that represent your inner life, hopes, and dreams. Find images to represent your bright side and others to convey your shadow. When you're done, take a good look at this masterpiece of your life. Then give someone you love a guided tour. This life collage can be fun to make alone or with friends."
