Do not buy this version of the book. I came to class the first day with it and my insides were black and white and everyone else had color inside their pages which makes it much easier since you are dealing with color and layers, etc. I also don't have the CD and others did. It would be helpful if people new what was on the CD which is a bunch of step by step tutorials which make understanding the whole process easier, especially for review when not in class. If you're not taking a class but teaching yourself, the CD would definitely be nice to have.

The book is helpful but it was supposed to come with an instructional CD and it did not.

The book is organized well. Each chapter focuses on a specific skill set, with bite-sized lessons that allow you to practice using the files provided. While the book is okay overall, it falls short in two areas: 1. It's short on the "why," i.e. "Why am I using this tool to do this?" The explanations are limited to the scope of the particular chapter/lesson. It needs a broader perspective. 2. The screen shots and illustrations are in black & white. Not necessarily the best thing when dealing with topics such as color channels or using color to transform an image. Nevertheless, the book is good at teaching basic skills and techniques if you're not a lazy reader.
