Memphis 7.9 and Broken River should be read in sequence. They are astonishingly detailed about a 7.9 earthquake along the New Madrid Fault Zone and are probably a must-read for people living in the area who care. The technical knowledge is terrific, but...these are fiction, and the writing is amateurish at best. Characters are cardboard and the dialogue is one step above Saturday Night Live. Even with those negatives, anyone fascinated by earthquakes (very likely) in the American heartland probably should read them.

Be sure to read this series in the correct order. It will give you a new view of what will happen when the Madrid Fault blows.
