I don't get this book. I guess because it is less about swimming than it is about self-discovery. I'm still looking for a good adult swimming instruction book.

If you want to overcome your fear of water (the real roadblock to learning to swim) Melon has the answer in this book and related classes. Reading this book and realizing that someone understands the way you feel in and about water gives you hope! Melon's explanation of why you're not calm and safe in water makes sense. So it follows that her approach to dealing with those reasons also makes sense. Not everything in the book will grab you. But if you acknowledge every step in it, you'll find what speaks to the heart of your issues with water. This book is the next best thing to attending an MSI class. Everyone in the classes that I attended had major breakthroughs. For me, the miracle was when I was able to repeatedly, comfortably jump off the diving board into the deep end of the pool after 40 years of sheer terror and embarrassment. Being calm enough in 12 feet of water to naturally tread water is icing on the cake. Stop replaying fear and panic in your head and learn how to replace it with fun and freedom. The insight in this book can be applied to anything in life that causes you fear or discomfort.

My loved one has feared water in her face since infancy. I know how to swim "a little," and for our whole married life, I tried to help her overcome her fear. After participating in Melon's class, she is not only fearless in water and a "freestyle" swimmer, but she is giving ME tips on how to overcome MY fears of water and become a freestyle swimmer like her. I'm left behind!!! Peter W. Yaremko
