For years, I've known eating out wasn't good for me and attempted to pick the 'healthiest' item on the fast food menu. After reading this, I was floored that my choices were some of the worst. Eat This, Not That destroys the myth of the grilled chicken vs. the hamburger dilemma as well as offering healthy alternatives to the crazy world of what is really good for us.

I have read some of the more critical reviews of the book and although there may be some validity I disagree with a lot of previous comments made. For instance, unhealthy foods DOES tend to have higher calories. I personally like to judge how healthy a food is by how many fat grams is contained in it. Aren't we all, after all, trying to prevent atherosclerosis from forming in our blood vessels? Keeping the FATS down is vital and this book can help you do that. While many have said that they do not eat much fast food for many others it is becomes inevitable. With our busy modern lives rushing from place to place it is often the case where one simply does not have the time to stop for a restaurant meal let alone make themselves something at home. For my husband and me that tends to be on weekends. During the week I enjoy cooking healthy meals at home. It is good to know, therefore, that when we drive through (or sit down) in a local fast foods establishment we pick the healthiest alternative available. This book helps you do that immensely! The color photographs of food alternatives in different fast food places is excellent. After awhile one remembers what ARE the best alternatives and does not have to consult the book as often. I find that makes my life a lot easier. When I first purchased the book I was constantly referring to the EAT THIS NOT THAT alternatives listed. Now I have learned much and have thus contributed to my (and my husband's) better health. Of course the BEST alternative is if you are at home and you can cook your own meal controlling what you put into it. However on the days when you do not have that option it is good to have the knowledge to pick wisely. Therefore I would recommend this book to those on the run.

I don't eat a lot of fast food, but this book was still useful in that it is packed with facts and little-known pointers about various foods.
