The authors (board certified psychologists and educators) provide a short, practical, and effective approach for learning or teaching emotional intelligence skills. The book introduces an education model and positive assessment process in chapters one and two. Then it invokes the emotional learning system (a systematic approach created by the authors) to develop specific skills within the emotional intelligence competencies. The competencies include interpersonal communication, self-management, personal leadership, and intrapersonal knowledge. The last chapter provides a theory of personal excellence for continued growth and self-renewal. I use the book to teach a college success course as well as in other adult education settings. I also know that the book is being used successfully by other institutions of higher education and in other educational settings as well. The book will be very useful for anyone interested in developing emotional intelligence.
