This book is somewhat densely written in occasionally archaic language so it is not an easy read. The material inside is quite well-thought out, however and gives a good structure to assist wealthy families in solving the problems that come with wealth...unmotivated children, lack of purpose, etc. The general idea of seeing a family's resources as not only financial and social but also intellectual and personal..and figuring out how to develop those is a useful frame. Instead of "shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in 3 generations", you would be more likely to maintain the family's resources if you followed some of the principles in this book. I did not give it 4 stars due to the stilted writing.

I agree with my esteemed colleague, Mr. Collier, and would have to highly recommend this book as a guide to thinking deeper about the softer 'issues' that need to be considered and thought through.

Family Wealth is an area in small and meduim size business that has lept to the front of issues facing their firms. As the baby-boom generation decides how an when to step aside Family Wealth should be a must read book on the topic of asset protection and family relationship.
