A teacher brought this to me in the school library, and I was immediately in love with the illustrations! Photos overlaid with watercolors and fun faces create a realistic, yet whimsical, vision of San Francisco. Based on actual events during the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989. The story focuses on an almost retired fireboat, and a portable hydrant developed just a few years earlier, that help save San Francisco from disaster. I'm always on the look out for books about the city, and this is one I would definately like to add to the school's library, as well as my personal collection.
