It starts to show you every step from the first beginning to learn guitar, and it's good. I play guitar for 6 years ago, and most of things of this book i knew them already, but i'm really pleased to learn them again. And even there are chords that i didn't know!. And the Cd is really good. If you play all the songs from the Cd at the same time, is a really improvement to learn the art of playing the guitar.

Although there is no really up to date songs in here to learn at least their isn't "Yo, Ho, Blow the Man Down!!!" The method is a good mix of learning melody and rhythm, getting into a good beginner assortment of styles and theory without being either mind-boggling nor simplistic. I wish, however, that all method books would give a good OVERVIEW as to how the guitar can be played and how to point yourself in the direction of style of playing that suits you and what you want to get out of playing. It took me ages to realize that no two guitar players ever play the same way and that, in the end, there is a certain amount of muddling through that you have to do, in order to become the type of guitar player that suits you. My aim, for instance, was to be able to play something on a porch on a rainy day without singing but still recognize what I'm playing (a combination of chords and melody). I didn't want to just play accompaniment and have to sing along, for instance, in order for someone to recognize the song. This book was the closest to giving me that. Within that context this pokes around a bit with different guitar styles and progressions etc. Certainly more modern than Mel Bay's stuff that I've seen.

Gives excellent practices for complete beginners in this book. It has books 1 through 3 and tells you step by step what you need to know for basics to play guitar. People often confuse these kinds of books with Music Theory books. This book is not music theory. If you want music theory in general, get a book that is not just guitar based. This book should be sufficient for a beginner.
