Gemstone has begun experimenting with longer-form Disney specials such as this one and the Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge epic "World of the Dragonlords." This special by Pat and Carol McGreal with art by Joaquin isn't quite that long, but it is quite entertaining. While doing battle with his arch-nemesis, the Phantom Blot, Mickey and the villain are transported to another dimension where things are completely upside down. Mickey's kindly scientist friend is a crazed supervillain, his enemy is a rooftop-swinging superhero called Blotman, and Mickey himself is a shiftless bum with no job, no friends and no ambition. The book also features a reprint of a classic Super Goof story by Jack Bradbury. In general, I prefer the "duck" side of the Disney Comic Universe to the "mouse" side, but I must say, this was a very entertaining volume. Mickey is often used these days to poke a little fun at superhero comic conventions (I've seen him used in parodies of Spider-Man and Plastic Man in recent years as well), but this is more of a straightforward superhero tale than a lampoon. It may not necessarily play to fans of hardcore superheroes like "The Authority," but this would be a perfect book to get for a kid who's just getting into comics, or even an older kid who is beginning to straddle the line between younger readers books and older superhero titles.

In this comic book, Mickey Mouse travels to a parallel universe where his nemesis the Phantom Blot is a superhero. This allows for the creators to have some fun parodying Batman. This is a fun comic book that fans of Mickey Mouse comics should enjoy.
