General George Smith Patton Jr. was a bold, inspirational American World War II military leader. Known as "Old Blood and Guts" to his troops in Europe, Patton had no equal as a military tactician. As military historian Eric Larrabee put it, Patton had the unique ability to "think like an army" and possessed a nearly mystical, intuitive understanding of battlefield tactics. As commander of America's Third Army, Patton achieved notable successes on the European battlefield in the war against Hitler. The Germans established blitzkrieg (lightning) warfare when they conquered Poland in 1939. But Patton shoved this concept down their throats as his Third Army swept across Europe after the Normandy invasion. Alan Axelrod ably tells Patton's life story in this concise, masterful biography. getAbstract highly recommends this outstanding book about one of America's greatest, most colorful military heroes.

This is a brief and compact biography of a well-documented life. General Patton's exciting life and career has already made its way into many books and a few movies but this short book is a very well-written one. It is not only about his biography but it is also about his line of thoughts, his influence on US military doctrines and his great handling of mechanized divisions in North Africa and Normandy. Highly recommended. I loved it.

This concise but authoritative biography of General George S. Patton, Jr. is the perfect text for the person who desires a penetrating biography of this legendary General without the length of some of the more complete biographies out there. As others have already posted, this is an easy-to-read biography that makes a great introduction to Patton's life, and for many readers this is complete enough to stop here. Alexrod does a great job of capturing the essence of Patton's life and philosophy in such a brief biography. The book starts out strong with the introduction by General Wesley K. Clark, and I can't help but agree with his sentiment that Patton was a winner, a morale- and team-builder who adapted quickly and sought to master every challenge and that we need leaders like Patton today. Axelrod has written an excellent concise biography of General Patton. I recommend it to anyone who wants a quick overview of his life and desires an introduction to this great general. I also recommend it to those that have read more exhaustive biographies on General Patton as I have. Sure, I was familiar with what was written because I have read the longer texts on his life, but I enjoyed this quick read about one of my favorite generals. If you like Patton or want to know more about him, this is a great little book.
