I must take time to recommend, and urge others to buy, and use this reference. The plants covered in this book grow far beyond the Pacific Northwest. While visiting my geologist father in the Cascades I used his copy. I should have stolen it. It was 5 years ago and only now am I able to find amazon selling it! Compared to other books on plants, this is a portable encyclopedia. I live in Utah and this is the best plant reference for my state I've ever held. But the most outstanding feature of the book is its organization. The structure of the book teaches you classification painlessly as you look up items from the index, or from the field. I'm buying 3 copies. One for myself and two as gifts.

I use this book a lot! I take it with me whenever I'm hiking, I think it's one of the better plant books out there. The pictures are great and the details help even if the picture doesn't match the season. It's a little big if your just going to carry it, but I usually toss it in my pack for long hikes. Definitely worth the purchase! I also like that it has a thicker cover and pages, just in case I drop it. Which I have and it still is in good shape.
