Having purchased several of the Hal Leonard play-along book/CD collections over the past year I can say that one of the frustrating things about them is that there's such a wide range of difficulty levels. This is most apparent when one tries to play the transcribed bass lines. An earlier Amazon review of this title suggests the same, talking about the wide range of playability (or challenge). This one really is a little tougher than a couple of the others. The trick to this book, and (I believe) to development as a musician is not to feel like a slave to the transcriptions. The Rock book that contains "Come Together," "Badge," "Brown-Eyed Girl," "The Joker," "Low Rider" and "Another One Bites the Dust" is less of a challenge. When considering any of the Hal Leonard volumes, though, keep in mind the fact that the CDs contain software that allows the user to slow down the tracks to approximately 50% tempo without changing pitch -- a great help for working out the transcribed licks, or for working out your own creations.

This book is for the advanced bassist. I'm still a beginner but I bought this book anyway. The transcriptions and CD are high quality, and tabs are included which helps. I've had great fun learning Crocodile Rock and playing along with the CD. Just this one song made it worthwhile to me. The others look interesting and challenging. Maybe later....
