Hi, you can call me StoryMaker. When I was much younger, I reviewed this, but it wasn't a very good review, so I'm doing a better one. Here goes nothin'! Ever since I was in Kindergarten, I have enjoyed JumpStart software. When I was in 2nd Grade or so, I learned about the JumpStart workbook series based off the software. So, Mom got me a lot of JumpStart 2nd Grade workbooks off eBay. Some of them, like Math Workshop, were quite good. However, others were not good. Phonics is among them. In JumpStart 2nd Grade Phonics workbook, CJ Frog & Edison Firefly blast into outer space to learn about phonics. They visit many made-up planets on their journey. Some elements to the plot are pretty dumb, and I didn't like how the Doinks chased CJ & Edison out because "our poem doesn't have any -oink words!" I like the Doinks & Zows, personally. Of course, many 2nd Graders could probably manage to get past the lame points in the plot. However, there are more problems. The biggest problem is that this workbook is quite easy for 2nd Grade. The blends & digraphs were definitely beyond easy for me when I was a 2nd Grader and, unfortunately, they're a main focus. This workbook actually does get credit for telling me about the terms "dipthong" and "schwa". However, even if I didn't know the word, I pretty much knew what a dipthong was. Schwa was a new concept for me, but I mastered it pretty quickly. The vowels & R's thing was fairly easy. Maybe I'm just smart, but I doubt it. Overall, JumpStart 2nd Grade Phonics workbook might be good for someone who just entered 2nd Grade to do review work, but other than that, it really is easy. You might want to get it in a lot like I did so there's more value. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"

Hello, I'm StoryMaker, and we got a big JumpStart workbook (2nd grade) lot off eBay! Most I didn't even know exsisted, but I knew about this one I knew! It's too easy, and all the blends & digraphs were boring. It's for 1st grade! Actullay, Chocolate Dog could of done it! She knows here blends. But schwa wasn't too easy, but I could simply do it by just thinking, "Does this word have the regular A "ahhh" sound or the U "uhhh" sound?" And I hated the study of "Variant Vowels". I hated choosing wheather an R word sounded like chair or chart and I didn't even do the page after that! And it's a bit dumb, they are trying to make it exciting but in order for it to be educational they make it so you do something educational that has nothing to do with it! For example, why does writing the correct R blends help you escape the astroids? And here's a stupid part: "Oh no! The Doinks didn't like our poem because it didn't have any -oink words! Let's get out of here!" and I hated how it focuses on sounds, it tells you to groups these together: "Oi-Oy" "Ow-Ou" and that's no good. But still, exciting adventure and great activities, just a little easy & stupid. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"

I bought this because my 6 year old wanted it. I didn't have a really big expectation, just thought maybe it would help a good reader get better. He LOVES IT! he finished the entire workbook in 1 night! I kept asking if he wanted to stop and he said no. He just kept going. GREAT BOOK!!I'll get the rest of them now.
