I served as an ops officer on destroyers during the 60s, and Captain Deutermann knows his stuff. The Forest Sherman class destroyer weapons systems descriptions are right on target, the sensors are accurately named and described, the tactical and communications procedures are exactly right, and the action is totally believable. Not only that, this is a well written novel with excellent character and plot development - not a formula "techno-thriller" like so many writers crank out. I plan to add this book to my home sea-novels library along with the works of Jan de Hartog and others. Thank you, Captain Deutermann.

Pretty good tale. Served in that chain of command for many years. Mike violated the unwritten rule by "playing in his own homeport".

As a destroyer skipper like Captain Deutermann, we both operated out of Mayport (Jacksonville, FL). It was so realistic a story I was spellbound the entire read. I have passed copies on to other sailors who say the same thing. I'm trying to order the other Deutermann books, but I am having trouble using my account; it has sent purchases to other than the shipping I indicated/it has duplicated items to the wrong person/I can't change shipping and billing forms. I would like to erase/cancel my account and start over.Louis Colbus
