This book goes into far more deeply into the advanced features of SolidWorks than any other text I have seen so far. Consequently I had to work a lot harder and longer on this book than any other SolidWorks text I have studied. Nevertheless, the extra effort was definitely worthwhile. I do not recommend this text for beginning or novice SolidWorks users. That said, I have really benefited from the book after but only after I went completely through (1) A beginning SolidWorks text, then (2) An intermediate SolidWorks text. This advanced text covered a lot of deeply complex topics on SolidWorks that I could not find anywhere else. Yes, this book did require a lot of time and effort on my part, but now I am been able to do SolidWorks projects that I simply could not touch before.

Only the most dedicated masochist would submit himself to finding anything of educational value in this tome. I could learn more about Solidworks from reading the (King James)Bible. As it is, this book sits on my desk and hurls insults at me for paying full price when originally released; you couldn't pay me to take this book now. This is a case of a writer knowing so much that he can't break down the information for those who don't know. If a person were to pull anything useful out of this cinderblock, they are probably so advnaced that they don't need it.

I purchased this book thinking that the size of the book was equivilant to the ammount of valuable information inside. I couldn't have been more foolish. I really seems like this book uses way to many words to say anything useful, kind of like a boring teacher that looses the students interest by belaboring them to death with too much information and not enough action. For several months I tried to use this book to get into Solidworks without any success. I've been using high-end 3-D modelling and animation software professionally for more than 20 years, and yet this book failed to help me understand the basic workflow of this program. Recently I purchased "Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2008 & MultiMedia CD" and within a couple of days was well on my way to building models and understanding the full scope of the tools. In fact, I felt compelled to write this review based on my frustration with my initial effort to understand the program using this book. Even now as I understand the software better, I find this book cumbersome to navigate and of very little use.
