I'm not a very "hard core" gamer, in that I don't enjoy spending hours and hours and hours trying to figure out on my own some of the more esoteric wrinkles in the plot or game play of my PC games. If, after reasonable effort, I find I just can't get past a certain part of a game, I like to have a Strategy Guide to refer to so that I can get things moving along again ... my ego can take it. So if you don't mind asking for help now and then, this guide will give you all you need to overcome any deficit you might have as a medieval war planner. I didn't find any part of this game I couldn't handle with this guide in hand. Very nicely done !!

A nice supplemental for the original release of Stronghold (the Warchest version of the game has included more maps), but not something you should feel that you need to have to play the game. This is more of an expanded instruction manual than anything else as there are really no "behind the scenes" info or secrets revealed about the game. It is nice in the fact that every map and scenario is discussed throughout the book, and the author gives his strategies for getting through each of them. Therein lies the problem, though, as more often than not, I was able to play and defeat each scenario using different tactics, and the only real help came from the author's run down of what to expect during the course of each mission. Those looking for more detail about the game or special hints or strategies will be disappointed by this book, as there are none forthcoming. Again, an interesting companion for the game and addition to the instruction booklet, but you certainly do not need to have this Strategy Guide in order to successfully play and enjoy the game to its fullest potential.

This is a good strategy guide for a good game. This book gives you a 2 page strategy for every level in the game. It has strategys for building and location for castles. Another good thing about this guide is that is has a table of every unit in the game with a discription, picture, and review of each too.
