This book had lots of promise and an entertaining beginning. The sea passage to America and their subsequent visit to the 'landing' in Virginia was B-O-R-I-N-G! It got good again when the traveled to Philidelphia and Hilary entered the picture. Ending had some good plot turns and unexpected twists. Overall: slightly above average.

Description from back of book: False Pretenses... Desperate to escape to America with her life -- and that of the infant in her arms -- Jessa Winter quickly weds a mortally wounded man, planning to flee England as his widow. She doesn't count on Noah McClellan's will to live -- or his determination to make her deliver on all of their marriage vows. But baby Gideon and her own hidden secrets must be protected -- even as Noah's passionate demands tempt her to trust him with everything: the truth, her life, and her heart... ...Lead To True Passions Noah has every intention of getting his due from the cunning female who's played him for a fool. As they sail for America, he is torn between outrage and growing tenderness for this beautiful woman he now calls wife. Jessa's recklessness nearly cost him his life -- yet he cannot fight the burgeoning desire to tease and tempt her into sharing more than just his name... * Although I enjoyed this series I would have to say that this book was my least favorite. I gave the first 2 books 5 stars but I couldn't give this book more then 3 1/2 stars. Up until page 300 something they didn't even like each other & Jessa was treated like a whore & she was basically repulsed by Noah. I don't care that she was keeping secrets Noah shouldn't have demanded her to be his whore. It was just sickening. I don't understand how Jessa could turn from being so used & shamed to falling in love with him. It would've taken a lot more for me. Although I wasn't too thrilled with this book I'd still recommend this series. Book #1 Crystal Passion, Book #2 Seaswept Abandon & Book #3 Tempting Torment. Also please note there is a very short story included in this book that is more or less a 4th book in this series. It's only like 50 pages but it was really good.

Part of a trilogy on the McClellan family, you'll love the characters and the dialogue. Jo Goodman never fails to deliver.
