The book worked for me, just as magically as people said it would. I was so scared to read it, afraid it wouldn't work because I smoked so much and for so long. I thought I loved my cigs, I obsessed over having enough at all times, and timed out my life between them. It's been four months and I don't think about cigarettes, people can smoke around me and I don't notice, and I haven't smoked once, despite a move, a breakup, a long daily commute, and various other everyday troubles that usually would have required nicotine. I don't think about them except when I realize that I'm not wanting one or thinking of them! I'm free after thirty years. Patches and gum only slow detox down and prolong the agony, so I can't imagine trying to quit that way after the speed and ease of just reading the book and being finished. I was unsuccessful once before using patches (and once cold turkey), I was miserable and felt deprived and punished, somehow. It's like paying to feel crummy, when you could read the book and just be done and happy and move on with your life. I bought this book, finally, thinking that for the cost of 2 or 3 packs I could quit. I've since saved (at March 2009 prices in my area) $1600. There are lots of ways to spend an $100 extra a week, but I usually choose to leave work early on Fridays now. Thanks, Allen, RIP!!

A number of patients in the medical clinic where I work have said that this book helped them quit smoking when nothing else had. I bought it for my sister and am hoping she will read it - because I think if she does, she will quit too!
