Shannon Pratt is recognized as an expert in the field of valuation. When he published "Valuing a Business" in 1981, it was quickly adopted by professional appraisers as an authoritative text on the subject of business valuation. Because "Valuing a Business" was specifically written for professional appraisers, it proved impenetrable for attorneys and other professionals who were not well versed in appraisal techniques. Pratt remedied this shortcoming with "The Lawyer's Business Valuation Handbook." Just as "Valuing a Business" was written specifically for professional appraisers, "The Lawyer's Business Valuation Handbook" was written specifically for attorneys. It provides general information about appraisal techniques and offers advice on how to recognize whether an appraisal is accurate and fair. The book is easy to read and offers several hypothetical models that explain the concepts in detail. This is an invaluable handbook for any attorney who deals with appraisals of land and/or businesses.
