Okay, after my second Jack Reacher novel, I'm a fan. I'm not reading Child's books in chronological order, but it doesn't seem to matter, because each book stands on its own. I preferred Running Blind (Jack Reacher, No. 4), but Tripwire was still a solid thriller and it gave me more enjoyment than spending eleven dollars at the movies. Of course, as a writer, I'm prejudice toward books. Lee Child has invented a unique character in Jack Reacher. Not an easy task in the action genre. The novels are strongly written, with good characterization, and dialogue that isn't trite or tell. Lee Child has complete control of his genre, his characters, and his story. Maybe that's because he actually writes his own books.

Long and boring just like most of his novels. Once again he ran out of ideas before he ran out of ink. Also, thanks for stereotyping Texans again you arrogant, ignorant Brit. Child knows nothing about the military or Texans but that doesn't stop him from writing about either. I can sum up by suggesting there are much better authors out there folks. (I guess I did make the same mistake again afterall. I guess hope springs eternal.)

I found this particular Jack Reacher novel to be a bit verbose. I think I'll need to read ten or twelve other books before I go back to the next one in the series. Not because there's anything bad about Reacher, but because Mr Child (in this one, anyway) has become just way too wordy. I'm a plodding reader who has to work to get through most things, and this one was a lot of work. Too many sentences with too many words interposed between the beginning and the end of an idea or bit of action. I need a rest. Other than that, I enjoy Reacher, no matter how improbable he is.
