If I were to say all I could about "True Sport", this would indeed be a long review. Let me start by saying that I'm not an easy sell. I am the Director of Golf Instruction at Eagle Ridge Inn and Resort in Galena, Illinois as well as the Head Teaching Professional at the Westin Mission Hills Pete Dye Resort Course in Palm Springs, Ca. But more than that, I, myself, attempt to capture this "True Sport" in my golf column which appears weekly in several different publications across the country. You might even say that I'm a bit of critic, much like the gourmet chef who can't find a decent restaurant. I first cracked the book expecting to learn of a mythical, magical golf club which the main character somehow stumbled upon. That's how it was described to me anyway. But it was far more. It has more to do with how someone entered and exited the world. It is about how one unassmuming man learned, then taught. It is about real virtue. Just as captivating are golf's historical figures who show up to compete in the many on-course battles in "True Sport". If I do have a complaint, it's that the book was over before it started. One minute, I was deep in imagination, trying to figure out how the game must have been different in 1906. A minute later, I was overcome with the sense that the game hasn't changed. I recommend "True Sport" unreservedly. It's a wonderful read that takes many turns.

I am not a golf fan, but I found this book a great read none-the -less. It is so much more than a story about a very special golf club, though that aspect of the story is intriguing as well. The books appeal comes from the colorful and heartwarming characters that fill its pages. The emphasis on the real meaning of sportsmanship and family values is refreshing in a time when athletes with 'attitudes', and few scruples, are paid millions. It seems True Sport would appeal to a wide range of readers, from 12 to 90, with an interest in a great story

TRUE SPORT is a swiftly moving story of a very special golf club followed through three generations of golfers. But golf serves primarily as a metaphor for life. TRUE SPORT offers up a heartwarming story of people we care about who play by the rules to win what is really valuable in life.
